What fashion magazines and shops have to say… – Natalie

Vogue:

“On Sunday afternoon at the Metropol, they opened and closed their show with distinctly Nineties looks: black, sexy underwear – to put it in layman’s terms; it was basically a congress of Monica Bellucis, and what more could you ask for in life? In between those slithering slips and big black knickers, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana got fruity, quite literally, in dresses adorned with motifs from the domestic world, which is becoming something of a theme this season. One dress featured figs and radishes, another biscuits and roses. Then came the full chequered tablecloth number with Italian leftovers dotted here and there. There were peas in pods, a cabbage evening dress, a baby chicken print, and jewellery in the shapes of clementines, strawberries and aubergines.

Nothing, however, beat the madness of a zebra and lemon print – so random was it, it was fabulous. Under the skins of all those vegetables, the core of this Dolce & Gabbana show was the beating millennial heart the designer duo has been embracing for some time now. All you had to do was listen to the soundtrack: Sia and Zayn Malin’s Dusk Till Dawn, Rihanna’s Love on the Brain, Feels by Calvin Harris featuring Katy Perry, Big Sean Pharrell Williams, and Perry’s Chained to the Rhythm. It was a festival of fun for the young segment every designer in New York and Milan seems to be reaching out to this season, and if your five a day keeps the doctor away, at least we know the kids are alright.”

Moda Operandi:

“According to Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, love is in the air. In that spirit, the Queen of Hearts takes a quite fabulous turn on their runway along with a celebration of everything the duo (and their fans) adore—from abundant florals to traditional Italian fare (spot the new cannoli print!) and signature LBDs that will forever be in style.”

Harrods:

“For their Spring/Summer 2018 showcase the next day, the designers went less princess, more “Queen of Hearts” as their theme, presenting a vast collection which maxed in a variety of prints including the face card elements from classic decks, along with hearts, fruit, vegetables, floral, fish and even zebra designs. Texture, colour and detailing are what the pair ace in, offering up floral-festooned jackets, gauzy dresses, billowing blown-out sleeves, headpieces, super-size fruity earrings, along with more fitted silhouettes and some suiting woven in.

For the less colour-inclined, however, and giving a nod to their signature corset silhouette, black in just about every style imaginable – inspired by ’90s supermodels but with a contemporary D&G twist – book-ended the show, opening in chiffon, silk and lace on bodices, sheer skirts and dresses, trousers and tuxedo jackets. Closing the show in black, for their trademark power squad finale, the entire ensemble took to the runway in a sea of lingerie-style looks, each as individual and charismatic as the house itself.”

Harper’s Bazaar:

“Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have always been ones to march to the beat of their own drum; come Milan Fashion Week you can always rely on the duo to present a colourful and varied collection – where princesses meet fairy nymphs meet Italian glamazons. In short, they aren’t afraid to have a little bit of fun and their spring/summer 2018 show was no exception. From aubergine earrings to playing-card crowns, these are the weirdest and most wonderful accessories they dreamt up this season. We never knew we needed strawberry tart earrings until now…”

The Glass Magazine:

“Following the Queen of Hearts theme, the playing card motif was seen throughout the collection. The card was also interpreted in an oriental Chinese painting-style print on a heavily sequined loose shirt and leggings. With red, white and mint green being the prominent colours of the garment, it allowed for the intricate detail to stand out more. Similarly, there was a traditional Queen playing-card style garment in the form of a pencil skirt and a fitted matching top.

Lavish crowns, statement earrings and necklaces, flower and fruit prints and vintage-style silhouettes were mixed with the brand’s Italian heritage to create a very vivid show.”

Fashionista.com:

“The invitation promised a Queen of Hearts-themed affair, and that’s exactly what we got, starting with the carpeted runway, which fed into a stage set beneath a number of giant, mechanical cards hanging from the ceiling. The clothing and accessories catered to this theme, too. A series of playing card dresses, jumpsuits and gowns were scattered throughout the show; some came beautifully printed on silk, while others were embossed in sequins. Sunglasses had lenses in the shape of cards, and models debuted a number of new crowns that you will likely see all over Instagram in the months ahead.”
